Aren't you originally from Illinois? I come from fairly squeaky clean Wisconsin (where we produced, ahem, Senator Joe McCarthy), so no one's immune, but I was pretty taken aback at how brazen the pay to play stuff exists and at what levels (though Hallibertan surely should have disabused me of any doubts about that long, long ago...)
I wish Cranky were still cranking it out -- be interesting to see his take on the goings on in his hometown.
