Three Dog Night
Judge Walter Steed of Salt Lake City, Utah has been asked by a State committee overseeing Judges to step down because, as it is reported, he has three wives. I'm an anything goes kind of guy and as far as I'm concerned, as long as he recuses himself from bigamy cases I wouldn't have a problem. Technically, only one wife is a legal wife anyway, the other two are "spiritual partners" but the State of Utah feels that Steed's Halloween Harem undermines the dignity of the courts. They will have a hard time showing, in my opinion, that George Bush hasn't outdone Steed in every important respect.
Still one has to wonder about a State that tacitly approves of such things: Walter "Stud" Steed is not doing anything out of the ordinary in his part of Utah, but I haven't noticed that Utah is any more receptive to Gay marriage than any other red state. One has to wonder about what corrosive effect on marriage as an institution a union between Adam and Steve might have that this menage a quatre would not have.

I really don't care if someone wants to have a wife and two mistresses. As long as all the parties involved are consenting adults. Unfortunately, most of these polygamous marriages involve 12-14 year old girls and much older men. Needless to say, these girls do not get much of an education and often end up collecting AFDC because they have a lot of kids and are not legally married to their "husbands". Have you read John Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven? It really explains the cultural mentality of the polygamous Mormons.
I haven't read it, but of course you're right. Such abuse of underage girls is common in third world countries as well, but of course that's the direction we're headed in.
The sanctimony of marriages everywhere hangs in the balance. What kind of a country would let anyone associate with anyone else and then call it marriage!
It aint a marriage until the USDA stamps "Inspected" on the rump!
Or maybe in this case, the American Kennel Club?
