The poor will always be with us, said Jesus. “Screw them” reply the Republican Kleptochristians.
You do hear people talking out loud about how you don’t hear Muslims protesting against the extremists who twist their religion into a weapon. It’s not entirely true, of course and you don’t hear many Christians protesting the greed, graft and general inhumanity of extremists of that group either.
Take Trent Lott, for instance – if you have the stomach for it. Never one to object to relieving the burdens of the rich and powerful, he has the massive gall to object to subsidizing the heating bills of the poor, the freezing widows and orphans; the sick and the elderly and the disabled.
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to do that and Lott doesn’t like it. That’s money that should disappear into offshore accounts, should be spent on brazen improprieties for Congressfolk and huge bonuses for CEOs. A bill to make available funds included in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for fiscal year 2006 was passed last week over the objections of those famous for their allegiance to the Christian Right.
“What is it we are not going to give people for free? Is there any limit? Is there any limit to the amount of money?” said Lott to the Senate. “I thought we were having global warming.”
No coal for heat? Well then let them burn money. Despite the fact that Bush shortchanged LIHEAP by almost 3 billion The Republicans continue to pretend to be looking for places to cut the budget without ending the gravy train for themselves and the corporate aristocracy. Fortunately and although the vote was along party lines, Trent and his 40 thieves could not stop passage
Is there no end to what these robbin’ hoodlums will take for themselves? Is there no immorality they will not sweep under the Bible?
Take Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) – if you have the stomach for it. Jo Ann and her husband took money for an all-expenses paid trip to Santa Barbara, Calif., in January for the official business purpose of having two nights of "spiritual self-reflection."
Well reflect on this Jo Ann – that money could have kept a disabled veteran or somebody’s great Grandmother warm this winter. I hope you’re feeling really spiritual this winter.

If their religion is correct and it is true that a rich man will have a tougher time getting into heaven than a camel passing through the eye of a needle, then we can take comfort in knowing Bush and his fascist thug comrades will rot in hell where they deserve to be.
She looks like she might have been hot in her early days.
I have a feeling these people think they can swift-boat God and bribe the devil into giving them an air conditioned suite with a view.
As for Harris being hot - ugly is more than skin deep.
There is no difference between the republi-con and demo-crap incumbents. I favor Pennsylvania's
Operation Clean Sweep idea. Fire 'em all, and start over. It couldn't be any worse than it is now.
But it's a funny thing - those public servants trade altruism for lobby bucks within minutes and that's if they can win against the swift-boaters and professional liars.
The only hope is an educated and involved public and a press free of corporate or government influence. In other words, I don't have much hope.
