The dog ate my sense of ethics

And then there’s Dirty Dennis Hastert: fattest ass in town. The man cannot announce an investigation into unethical, immoral and possibly illegal acts by a fellow Republican without a passing dig at the Democrats. What an excellent record the Republicans have to run on, he gloats. What with the booming economy, (thanks to tax cuts for the plutocrats) and the glorious war in Iraq, thanks to George Bush, they don’t have to stoop to nasty political tricks – like the Democrats. Despite what he said on CNN this afternoon, the buck does not stop there; the buck is made into a spitball and thrown at the people who did not support Foley’s little games.

He forgot, of course, to mention that the party of moral standards, family values and religion has done so much to improve the moral character of Congress, America and the world at large. Who would dare think that Godless moral relativism is hiding in their defense of Foley the Fornicator? Their offenses are washed away by the transgressions of Democrats and they are now clean as the driven snow. Never mind that smell, that’s not us, it’s the Democrats.

How long will the American people continue to buy the idea that anything the Republicans do, no matter how egregiously hypocritical and how rigorously proven can be excused because the revelations are politically motivated even if the whistle blowers are Republicans? Of course it’s all political. It has nothing to do with buggery and cover-ups.

"The people who want to see this thing blow up are ABC News and a lot of Democratic operatives, people funded by [liberal activist] George Soros”

I guess a man can’t eat as much as Denny without producing a lot of shit. Will it ever progress to the point where crimes against humanity cannot be made to disappear merely by chanting Michael Moore, George Soros,Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton and “godless Liberal?”

Maybe never, but getting rid of Hastert would be a start. Voting out the Republicans would be a start. Turning off the talk radio hate machine would be a start. Impeaching Bush would be a step. Imprisoning Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and Kissinger as enemy combatants would be a dream come true, but I will settle for a Democratic landslide in November.

Can we get the government to set aside 20 million for a victory celebration?

The Republicans have a paranoid fixation on those four figures. They seek to label every critic of their policy a far-left liberal. At first it was probably a cynical ploy. Then like all persuasive liars, the Republicans eventually drank their own kool-aid and were consumed by paranoia, seeing the hand of Soros and Hillary in everything.

However this has been running out of steam since many conservatives have been joining the torrent of criticism. But the news media still laps it up like a hungry dog.

They really are scraping the bottom of the argument barrel. Fox has resorted to saying Foley isn't guilty because some Democrat did something like this in 1983 - and then there's Clinton. Fox has been calling Monica a 19 year old, which of course is another Foxfabrication. She was 22 which is a whole lot different than 16.

But no matter what anybody once did, Foley's misdeeds are Foley's responsibility, and if the Repblicans aren't capable of understanding personal responsibility, then they hace lost the last leg they had to stand on.

Great post, as always.
I'm not nosey or intrusive as a rule, but I wish your bio said a little more about you, because you so often articulate so eloquently the plain facts, (as does your protege, whom I'm guessing is a son-in-law or close relative, Crankyboy). You constantly remind me that there is erudite sanity still in this country among us, voices that should be heard, but it would be interesting to know if you're a professor, former statesman, etc., i.e. how did you acquire your values and opinions. No one's business, I know, but you're inspiring, and I appreciate that - which breeds curiosity. I promise, no follow up requests for photos or IMs from me :-)

It's taken 6 years or so but the motivation behind the republican power-grab is finally being exposed for what it is: just that -- power for its own sake.

What's worrysome is that some Americans still don't see the incompetence and outright lies of this group of thugs. In there eyes, even pedophilia is excusable.

On another note, although a landslide in Nov would be a good start it'll likely give the next batch of crooks and liars a way to blame Iraq on the dems -- saying we forced an end to the conflict before achieving 'victory'.

Never mind that things are going downhill like a runaway apple cart.

Downhill like a runaway applecart or going to hell in a handbasket - whatever metaphor you choose it's getting so much worse that the only defense they have is to say it's getting better.

I still meet people who fly into a rage when you make the slightest criticism of Bush, but they must be boiling over with some inner turmoil.

But you're right - just as we lost in Vietnam because of hippies burning flags and a lack of will, we will be forced out of Iraq because of hippies burning flags and lack of will.

Anthing but the truth

Hahaha, yes. The best part about it is that in order to claim Iraq is getting better, they have to acknowledge it was bad to begin with.

Exactly. I wrote a post about this sort of tendency.

Scapegoats indeed. It's been their preferred strategy for 40 years. I think it's possible to predict exactly what will be said when we are finally forced to leave and we even have Kissinger to write it all out for them.
