Sin City

Things one reads at Salon.com

My thanks to a friend at World Defense Review for this

Columbia Christians for Life reports that Katrina was God’s punishment for Louisiana having 10 abortion clinics. But the plot thickens; they also feel that God did this to prevent Southern Decadence, an annual gay-themed bash that was scheduled for Labor Day weekend in New Orleans. Evidently there were not at least ten good people in the Gulf Coast section of the Bible Belt to make those three States worth saving. The fact that their domain name is up for sale only heightens the hilarity, in my opinion.

Repent America, whose web site has a separate entrance for Christians and “all others” is reported to have issued a press release wherein director Michael Marcavage explains: "Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city. From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same."

Again one wonders why the only “Sin” the invisible man will punish seems to be sex and why his aim is so sloppy and his choice of sinful places so arbitrary. I’ve been to Dachau and it’s in pretty good shape and without a single “mene mene” on the walls. Amsterdam is behind levees too and is deeper in “Sin” than any city in this hemisphere. Mysterious ways indeed.

Maybe I’m sticking my neck out here but if God acts this way, he’s the Devil. If he does not, well then I feel sorry for any God who is the Lord of such buzzing flies.

Let’s look at the states most harmed by hurricanes in the last two years: Florida, the Carolinas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and maybe Georgia. They are all Red States. Do I have to spell it out? OK, I will – all these hurricanes are God’s punishment for voting Republican.

No, the Bush administration's lack of action to help the Gulf Coast is God's punishment on the Red States. You'd think that he would spring into action to show his graditude to these states for re-electing him. What an ungrateful bastard.
