Rescue Me

We’re not just bleeding heart Liberals anymore, we’re Vultures of the Venomous Left, according to the Washington Times, the newspaper owned by the Rev Sun Myung Moon, who brags of being the reason George Bush got elected. Yesterday’s editorial by Wesley Pruden insists that the real problem behind the Katrina disaster was the Democrats, not the polluted cesspool that used to be FEMA before it sank into the depths of the Black Hole known as Homeland Security. No, it’s not the disorganized, corrupt, incompetent Administration’s fault that things got so messy, it’s the fault of the Mayor of New Orleans, the Governor of Louisiana and although it’s not said, I’m sure Pruden would have liked to add Jane Fonda.

Of course when you’re trying to make a fallacious case for something, it helps to look only at isolated minutia, because the big picture is sometimes all too clear. Most of the Media sees the big picture and I think most of the country does as well, yet the Rabid Rodents of the Reprobate Right do not and will not even if you hold their noses in their own mess. So following in their path, here’s another small example of FEMA’s having become yet another instrument of the Bush / Rove Propaganda Machine while abandoning it’s mission to serve the American People in time of need.

The Salt Lake Tribune tells us that 1000 firefighters from around the country were called to Atlanta by FEMA, not to answer New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin’s plea for more firefighters, but to prepare to be deployed to the Gulf Coast to be public relations representatives for FEMA. It’s reported that many of the disgusted firefighters took off their FEMA T-shirts and refused to represent that organization.

"They've got people here who are search-and-rescue certified, paramedics, haz-mat certified," said a Texas firefighter.

"We're sitting in here having a sexual-harassment class while there are still [victims] in Louisiana who haven't been contacted yet."

The firefighter would not give his name of course, because by now we all know about the reprisals that result from criticizing the self-serving gang of hoodlums, thugs and gangsters who stole our country.

Another victory for the Howling Hyenas of the Rapacious Right.

Evening update

CNN reports a breaking story that says between 25 to 30 bodies have been found in a nursing home in St. Bernard Parish outside New Orleans. Details to come. I was told today that FEMA was sending the firefighters and EMT armed only with FEMA leaflets because the rescue work was done. I guess not. Too bad we didn't have enough people out there when it was possible to save them.

An article in Editor & Publisher today reports that while New Orleans was pleading for help on the Mnday after Katrina hit, Donald Rumsfeld was having his own Nero moment, watching the Padres Play ball in San Diego. There has been some speculation that Rummy's delay in paying attention to the situation may have been a factor in the late arrival of the military in the area.

Look for some more interesting details of Rumsfeld's career on these pages soon.

Don't forget those sexual harrassment classes were a lefty idea. It's always the fault of liberals. Probably had to dive under 55 the whole way there too, another lefty law.

I have been chastized by a well known blogger for using the term "Public Relations" when the FEMA apellation is "Community Relations"

I stand by my language. I think it's a cynical publicity stunt and nothing more. You don't send a doctor without medicine or equipment to a sick person and call it Community relations. Public Relations is a far more polite term than I would like to have used.

Relief efforts are finished? The people of Waveland, MS don't think so. Oh yeah, FEMA is still preventing medical teams from reaching those who need help. And now Hurricane Ophelia is hovering off the Atlantic coast of Florida. I wonder if FEMA will be as fast as they were last year.

Ophelia has been raining on me for days. That gives me lots of time to sit indoors and blog.

I wonder if FEMA has the personel to handle any more emergencies at the moment.
